Undergraduate PEC-G

Undergraduate PEC-G

What is it?

The Brazilian Program for Exchange Students – Undergraduate Level (PEC-G) offers international students free admission to complete undergraduate degrees in Brazil. Courses are available in all fields of knowledge. There are no tuition or admission fees. PEC-G is an official initiative of the Brazilian government coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Education (MEC) in partnership with participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including UFSM.

Benefits:

  • Free admission to a full degree program.
  • Medical, dental, and pharmaceutical assistance through the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS).
  • Free legalization or apostille of your diploma (by the Brazilian embassy or consulate where you applied for the program).
  • In some cases, scholarships from MEC and MRE, as well as additional aid from UFSM.

PEC-PLE

All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Portuguese to be enrolled in PEC-G. The Celpe-Bras certificate is an official exam that assesses your fluency in Brazilian Portuguese. The test is available in several countries, including Brazil.

If you need the Celpe-Bras certificate to apply to PEC-G and cannot take the exam in your country, you must apply to the Brazilian Program for Exchange Students – Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PEC-PLE), in addition to applying to PEC-G.

As a PEC-PLE student, you will spend your first year in Brazil taking a free Portuguese language and Brazilian culture course in order to prepare you to take the Celpe-Bras exam. After obtaining the certificate, you can begin your undergraduate course as a PEC-G student.

For more information on PEC-G, please visit the MRE website.

How to apply?

Application is completely free and occurs annually at Brazilian embassies and consulates in participating countries. Click here to see the list of participating countries (in Portuguese).

Calls for Applications are published every year on the MRE website.
