AUGM: from abroad to UFSM

SAI, representing UFSM, extends a warm welcome to those who have chosen our institution for a period of study through the AUGM (Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo) Program. Below, you will find information that may be helpful for your initial contact with our institution.

Undergraduate Programs

UFSM welcomes foreign undergraduate students from partner universities participating in the AUGM Program, offering them the opportunity to study for one semester at our institution.

Process of acceptance of foreign students through the AUGM program:

  1. The home university nominates the student for UFSM, providing the required documents: AUGM Form, Transcript, and ID document.
  2.  SAI receives the nomination and forwards it to the coordination of the respective course at UFSM, which then issues the acceptance letter.
  3. SAI sends the acceptance letter to the home university along with guidance on the mobility process and requests additional documents such as passport, life insurance, and visa.
  4. Upon the student’s arrival at UFSM, they are required to submit the remaining documents in person at SAI, located in room 748 on the seventh floor of the Central Administrative Offices. You can access UFSM’s map through this link.
  5. During the foreign student’s reception, SAI initiates the process for the student’s registration number at UFSM.

      Accommodation

UFSM provides financial support for accommodation, currently amounting to R$1,000.00 per month, paid throughout the stay period, for a maximum of five months. Students are responsible for choosing and arranging their accommodation. UFSM does not mediate this relationship but offers a list of accommodation options to assist foreigners in their search. Further information on accommodation for foreign students can be requested through the email address sai.acolhimento@ufsm.br. SAI also coordinates the International Friend Program, connecting UFSM’s volunteer students who are available to assist newcomers arriving in Brazil.

Food

UFSM provides three meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) at the University Restaurant. Exchange students from the AUGM program receive free meals using their student card, which can be issued once the student has their registration number at UFSM. This card is valid across the campus, including the libraries. Upon arrival in Brazil, students must obtain the National Migratory Registry (RNM) and the Social Security Number (CPF). Both documents are essential for UFSM registration.

Graduate Programs

UFSM welcomes foreign graduate students from partner universities participating in the AUGM program for a period of 30 days. Upon the student’s arrival at UFSM, they are required to submit the remaining documents in person at SAI, located in room 748 on the seventh floor of the Central Administrative Offices. You can access UFSM’s map through this link.

Faculty Programs

UFSM welcomes foreign professors from partner universities participating in the AUGM Program for a period of 06 days. UFSM provides accommodation in Santa Maria, where the main campus is located.

Selective process:

  1. The foreign professor must apply through the AUGM website, adhering to the specified schedule and submitting the required documents. This includes the AUGM form and a Letter of Invitation from a UFSM professor.
  2. The Letter of Invitation is issued by the inviting professor and must be signed by this professor and the program director, and, lately, it must be submitted to SAI to be signed by the AUGM Delegate Advisor.
  3. SAI is responsible for analyzing the documentation. If there is more than one candidate from the same institution, this institution must indicate the chosen candidate.
  4. The hosting professor from UFSM is responsible for making hotel reservations and requesting food and accommodation (at a partner institution of SAI/UFSM) through a specific form 30 days before the arrival. The request should be sent to sai.augm@ufsm.br.
  5. SAI/AUGM receives the form, archives the information, and forwards it to the financial office of SAI, which will process the payments for the expenses.
